Chris Paterson to Manage In 2012 AWL

(San Ramon, CA. November 1, 2011) The Arizona Winter League announced today that Chris Paterson, Manager of the White Sands Pupfish of the professional Pecos Leauge, Player Development Director for the Pecos League, and scout for the Tampa Bay Rays has accepted a position as one of the manager/instructors for the 2012 Arizona Winter League that runs from Jan. 29th to March 1st.  Paterson will manage a team and will be looking to recommend players to Tampa Bay and to sign players for his team and for the entire Pecos League.  In addition, with his extensive interntional playing he will also be working on placing AWL players in the German,  Australian, and French pro leagues.

Paterson was an outstanding D1 collegiate pitcher at North Dakota State, including a no-hitter thrown against Creighton.  He was overlooked in the major league draft and used the Arizona Winter League to further his playing career.  He went on to play in the professional independent Continental League and Golden Baseball League in the U.S. and internationally in France, Germany, and Australia.  He began his coaching career as a player coach in Australia and then was named the youngest pro baseball manager in the U.S. when he took the helm of the Desert Valley Moutain Lions of the Continental Baseball League and responded with a performance that earned him the All-Star game manager selection and the 2010 Continental League Manager of the Year.  He has managed the last two seasons in the professional Pecos League, being named Pecos League Manager of the Year in 2011, and is the current manager for the White Sands Pupfish after piloting the Roswell Invaders to the League Championship last season.  He is recognized as one of the top evaluators of overlooked collegiate players and serves as the Player Procurement Director for the entire Pecos League and is leaned on heavily by all league teams to source players.  His reputation extends interantionally as well as he provides opportunities for players to land jobs in Australia, Germany, France, Czech Republic and other overseas leagues.  He worked the last two winters in the fledgling developmental California Winter League where he arranged for the Pecos League to offer spring training invites or pro contracts to over 40 players a year.

"It's a pleasure to have Chris back in the Arizona Winter League as a manager," said AWL Commissioner Kevin Outcalt.  "He's a first class instructor,  and he knows the value of this league as it started his pro career and his accomplishments as a player, manager, and player procurement director have been very impressive.  We are thrilled that he has selected the AWL as his developmental league of choice to source players for the Tampa Bay Rays, his White Sands team, the Pecos League, and to recommend to his overseas contacts.  This will open up even more pro opportunities for AWL players who already are part of the most successful developmental league in procuring pro contracts for aspiring pros."
